Rio de Janeiro, 2008 Dec 17-13

A week in Rio will certainly cure those late fall doldrums in New York. Even without Lynne, I managed to have a great time in Rio, tough life here. Best part was a 5 ½ hour trek that started from a small town south from Rio. As you can see, I got all sorts of flower pictures. The land picture is called the “turtle” and that was my destination that day.

You can’t go to Rio without taking at least one picture of Christ the Redeemer.

A Mountain to Yourself 2008 November 10-14

From 10-14 November 2008. I stayed at Joe Dodge Lodge in Pinkham Notch, New Hampshire. The Lodge is located on the Appalachian Trail in the White Mountain National Forest with Mount Washington towering in the background. Joe Dodge Lodge at an elevation of 2032, is isolated from the world of mobile phones, TV’s and Radios. What made this trip different is I had the whole place to myself, except for one other person. I spent days trekking in solitude and my meals were with the trail and lodge crews who are eager to preserve our environment. Here are a few pictures of this trip:

Mount Washington, New Hampshire 2008 March 21-24

Since I did not want the 42 inches of snow wasted, I headed back to Mount Washington with Lynne this time. Our first day of snow shoeing was on 12 inches of fresh now with drifts up to 18 inches. It was a little cold with wind guests up to 50MPH and a temperature of -20F with the wind chill.

Mount Washington, New Hampshire 2008 March 8-10

These pictures are from my stay at the Mount Washington Weather Observatory from March 8-10, 2008. The Observatory is on the top Mount Washington, New Hampshire. While the elevation is only 6288 feet, the mountain gets some of the worst weather in the world. It could not have been better. It’s not often one gets to be in 114 mph winds and
-45 F temperature with the wind chill factor.
